Glastonbury 2008: Amy Winehouse confirmed to appear

Amy Winehouse

Story by Jack Foley

AMY Winehouse WILL play this year’s Glastonbury Festival (2008), it has been confirmed by organisers Michael and Emily Eavis.

The troubled singer will perform directly before headliner Jay-Z on the Pyramid stafe on June 28 – making the bill on that day one of the most keenly-anticipated and eclectic in recent Glastonbury history.

Dispelling fears about Winehouse’s possible non-appearance, the Eavis’ said they had “total faith” she would perform, telling Radio 1’s Newsbeat website that “she’ll come and deliver”.

The confirmation of Winehouse’s appearance may give this year’s event a much-needed boost, as the festival has suffered a drop in demand this year.

Michael Eavis has, however, attributed this to the bad weather that has hit the previous two events – and not the decision to include a rapper in the line-up.

As for Winehouse, she has a number of festival commitments to fulfil this year besides Glastonbury, including a headline slot at Bestival on the Isle of Wight on September 6, as well as appearances at T In The Park and the V Festival.

She’s also scheduled to play several European festivals, starting in Portugal at Rock In Rio on May 30 and taking in Ireland’s Oxegen and France’s Rock en Seine in Paris.
