Glastonbury 2008: Diverse bill includes Mark Ronson and Shakin Stevens

Mark Ronson

Story by Jack Foley

IT’S been described by its organiser Emily Eavis as “our most diverse line-up yet” and that’s certainly reflected in the choice of artists taking part in the 2008 Glastonbury Festival.

Artists ranging from Mark Ronson (pictured), The Raconteurs and Shakin’ Sevens will join headline acts Jay-Z, The Verve and Kings of Leon at the world famous festival between June 27 and 29, 2008.

A day after the line-up was leaked on several internet sites, organisers Michael and Emily Eavis have delivered on their promise to make this year’s bill more diverse than ever before.

Other acts appearing include Editors, Panic At The Disco, Massive Attack, Groove Armada and The Fratellis, as well as Goldfrapp, Manu Chao, The Feeling, James Blunt and The Gossip.

But while the organisers appear genuinely excited by the prospect of such an eclectic bill, there have been criticisms from some quarters over the selections, with rapper Jay-Z being singled out as unsuitable by some.

This could be reflected by the fact that there are even “a few” of the 137,500 tickets left on sale – a situation that Emily has attributed to the bad weather at recent festivals.

But she also predicted that the 38th year of the festival would still be a sell-out and hinted at several surprises that were yet to be revealed. Her father, Michael, refused to comment on whether Amy Winehouse was among them.

Stevens, Nash, Duffy, Blunt, the Feeling and Winebar all at the same festival!! ha HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!! LUDICROUS!! Do they want people to stay away? What’s the deal? Are they all pseudonyms for proper bands like Sonic Youth and Janes Addiction? Or has Glastonbury become the new Guilfest!!?? ha ha!!
