Goo Goo Dolls confirm new album & UK tour

Goo Goo Dolls

Story by Jack Foley

THE Goo Goo Dolls will be releasing their eighth album Let Love In on June 5, 2006, and will be touring the UK at the end of May.

The band, whose biggest hits include Iris (the landmark power ballad from the City of Angels soundtrack) and Slide, will play two shows in London at the Brixton Academy on June 3 and 4.

Since forming in 1986, the Goo Goo Dolls have evolved from a scrappy punk-influenced trio into the platinum-selling, chart-topping act.

Along the way, singer/guitarist John Rzeznik and company left Buffalo, NY for Los Angeles, but Rzeznik soon found that LA wasn’t everything it’s cracked up to be.

The quest to rekindle his muse led Rzeznik to pack his recording gear and guitars in a U-Haul truck and drive across country to his hometown where he met his band mates, Robby Takac and drummer Mike Malinin, set up shop in a 100-year-old Masonic Ballroom where there was a different kind of dramatic tension to LA. Let Love In is the result.

The UK tour dates are as follows:

May 28 – Glasgow ABC
May 29 – Manchester Academy (sold out)
May 31 – Bristol Carling Academy
June 1 – Birmingham Carling Academy
June 3 & 4 – London Brixton Carling Academy (3, sold out)
