Grant Lee Phillips announces three UK dates (2008)

Story by Jack Foley

GRANT-Lee Phillips has announced he will be doing three UK gigs in April as part of his European The Ballads Tour.

The American singer-songwriter – whose music has featured prominently on shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Six Feet Under – will play Glasgow’s King Tuts on Friday, April 25, 2008, The Scala in London on Sunday, April 27 and Whelans in Dublin on April 28.

Tickets are priced between £12 and £14 and may be subject to a booking fee.

Of the forthcoming tour, Phillips says: “I have always found my acoustic shows to be rewarding in a unique way. There’s something about breaking it down to the voice and guitar alone on a nightly basis that enriches my relationship to the song. I find myself getting in touch with the lyrics and the melody on another level.”

Described as having “a rare gift of empathy” by Entertainment Weekly, and named male vocalist of the year in 1995 by Rolling Stone magazine, Phillips’ music has been featured in a diverse range of films and television shows, from Gilmore Girls (Spring Released, Lily-A-Passion, Raise the Spirit) – a show where he continues to appear as the Stars Hollow Town Troubadour – to Roswell (Beautiful Dreamers), Six Feet Under (Humankind), House (Happiness), and Grey’s Anatomy (Under the Milky Way).

Phillips also scored the entire first season of ABC’s What About Brian, and FOX’s new sit-com The Return of Jezebel James (by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino).
