Green Day cancel 2012/2013 tour dates

Green Day

Story by Jack Foley

GREEN Day have cancelled all their scheduled live appearances for the remainder of 2012 and early 2013 – although next summer’s Emirates Stadium gig in London IS still going ahead.

The announcement follows singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s decsion to check into a rehab clinic last month following an onstage meltdown.

In a statement on the band’s website, Mike Dirnt said: “Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern.

“We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”

To give the fans something to look forward to, however, Green Day have also announced that the release of the third part of their album trilogy, ¡Tre!, will be pushed forward to December 11, 2012 – a month earlier than its original release date of January 14, 2013.

Added Tré Cool: “We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned. If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing.”

The second installment of Green Day’s ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! album trilogy is expected to be released as planned with ¡Dos! still scheduled for release on November 12.

Green Day will play Emirates Stadium on June 1, 2013.
