Green Day confirm October UK tour dates (2009)

GREEN Day have confirmed details of their first full UK tour since the start of 2005, in support of their forthcoming new album, 21st Century Breakdown.

The band will play a total of eight dates, including two nights at London’s O2 Arena from October 19 to 31. The dates also represent the band’s first headline dates since their defining two night stand at Milton Keynes National Bowl that same summer of 2005.

The tour dates are (all October 2009):

19 – Glasgow, SECC
23 – London, O2
24 – London, O2
26 – Sheffield, Arena
27 – Birmingham, LG Arena
28 – Birmingham, LG Arena
30 – Manchester, MEN Arena
31 – Manchester, MEN Arena

Green Day’s long-awaited and highly anticipated eighth studio album 21st Century Breakdown will be released worldwide by Reprise Records on Friday, May 15.

The album is the trio’s first since the phenomenally successful American Idiot album that sold over 12 million copies, debuted at #1 on both sides of the Atlantic and earned the band two Grammy Awards.

The band commenced work on ‘early in 2006 and subsequently enlisted the expertise of legendary producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins).

The album is divided into three acts – Heroes and Cons, Charlatans and Saints and Horseshoes and Handgrenades – and follows a young couple, Christian and Gloria, through the mess and promise of the century so far. The album’s single, Know Your Enemy, is out now.

Tickets for the tour go on sale from 10am on Friday, May 1 and are limited to two per applicant and are priced at £37.50 for London and £35 for all regional dates.
