Guns N' Roses to headline Download

Guns N Roses

Story by Jack Foley

GUNS N’ Roses are to make a long-awaited return to the UK by headlining this year’s Download Festival.

Fronted by singer and sole original member Axl Rose, the band will play Donington Park on June 11, 2006, their first show for four years.

Metallica will headline the event on June 10, with Prodigy and Korn among the other confirmed acts so far.

Rose described it as ‘an honour and a privilege’ to be returning to the UK, as the country had ‘always been special’ to Guns N’ Roses.

The band is expected to perform new songs from their forthcoming Chinese Democracy album, their first original album since 1993.

Commenting on the presence of Guns N’ Roses at the festival, director Stuart Galbraith said he felt very proud to be bringing them back for the three-day event.

“Originally, we would have been happy to have one of these great bands to headline Download 06, but to be able to secure both Guns N’ Roses and Metallica is just awesome,” he added.
