Imelda May lands Meteor Music Award

SASSY Irish songstress Imelda May has walked away with the award for Best Irish Female at the 2009 Meteor Music Awards.

Tuesday night (March 17, 2009) saw the cream of the crop’ of the best Irish and International artists gather together at the 2009 Awards’ ceremony.

Nineteen awards were handed out altogether; eight of them chosen by the public.

2009 is already proving to be a whirlwind of a year for Imelda and she can now add this award to the one that she picked up in 2008 for Best Female Newcomer of the Year, at the prestigious Irish World Newspaper Awards.

Imelda’s signature style and vintage rockabilly music is starting to turn her into a hotly tipped’ one to watch for 2009 and her live shows showcase a contagious amount of Boogie Woogie.

At the Meteors, she performed alongside big names such as James Morrision, Elbow and Stereophonics and wowed the crowd with an energetic performance of her catchy hit single Johnny Got A Boom Boom.

Other big name winners included Duffy, The Script and Westlife.

Signed to Universal Music, Imelda had her first break when she supported Jools Holland on his summer tour. Since then, she has gone from strength to strength and has had great support from the likes of The Daily Mail, The Sun and BBC Radio 2.
