Ingrid Chavez and The New Purple Celebration to perform at 20th anniversary of Prince's Beautiful Strange in London

Story by Jack Foley

IN August 1998, the late singer and performer Prince held one of his most memorable concerts at the Café de Paris in London.

Joining him on this memorable night were 10-time Grammy winner Chaka Khan, Doug E. Fresh and the extraordinary Larry Graham.

To celebrate to the man and his music, the newly created PRN Alumni Foundation will hold a 20-year commemoration on June 7, 2018 from 8pm to 2am.

Live musical performances will come from the New Purple Celebration, Ingrid Chavez, and DJ Brother Jules (Paisley Park DJ), while PRN Alumni will team up with former Paisley Park staffers to share stories from their experiences of working with Prince.

There will also be a number of surprise guests on the night.

Jacqui Thompson, president of the foundation, commented: “This is the first international fundraiser for the foundation, and an opportunity to bring awareness to the international community of our goal to continue to support the charities that were near to Prince’s heart.

“A number of members of the PRN Alumni Foundation, together with former members of his personal team will be in attendance.”

The New Purple Celebration are a full nine-piece band, have been together for 13 years, fronted by founder-member Jimi Love, and including a horn section, backing vocals and keys. They will be performing music celebrating the music, life and legacy of Prince.

Prior to that will be a performance by renowned poet, singer/songwriter and visual artist Ingrid Chavez, who has had many acclaimed collaborations, including with Prince, Lenny Kravitz, David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Lorenzo Scopelliti and, most recently with Charles Webster and Marco Valentin for her forthcoming album, Memories of Flying.
