KAISER Chiefs will open next year’s Isle of Wight Festival with a headline set on the Friday night, it has been revealed.

The Leeds-based rockers were the final headliners to be announced, following news that veteran punk rockers Sex Pistols will top the bill on the Saturday night and reformed band The Police will bring things to a close on the final night.

The Isle of Wight event will be The Police’s only UK festival show in 2008.

The rapidly growing event runs for three days from Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15 and tickets are due to go on sale at 9am (GMT) on Monday, December 10.

Kaiser Chiefs are enjoying an exceptionally busy touring period in the wake of the release of their second LP, Yours Truly, Angry Mob.

They recently completed a UK tour by announcing plans to play their biggest concert at a homecoming show in Leeds next year.

The gig, which boasts support from The Enemy and Kate Nash, takes place at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium on May 24, 2008.

The band also claimed their first UK No.1 in the singles chart in February with lead single Ruby.
