Isle of Wight Festival 2008: The Police to headline closing night

The Police

Story by Jack Foley

FRESH from scooping the prize for Best Major UK Festival at this year’s UK Festival Awards, The Isle of Wight Festival is again set to thrill tens of thousand of fans across the land over three days from June 13 to 15, 2008.

And The Police have been announced as the first headline act, and will close the three-day event at Seaclose Park, Newport.

Festival Promoter John Giddings commented: “It’s a coup to get The Police for the Festival! We’re very happy to have the biggest tour of the last two years stopping by the Isle of Wight.”

The Police will return to Europe in 2008, and the Isle of Wight performance will be the only UK festival show for the trio.

The band are currently on tour in Central and South America, having already played to more than 1.5 million people.

The Billboard Award winning tour will start 2008 with performances in Australia, New Zealand and Japan before arriving in Europe for dates in Denmark, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic, Norway, Belgium, Germany and the UK.

Now in its seventh year since its reincarnation in 2002, the Isle of Wight festival brings together 50,000 free spirited, music loving, friends, families and Festival goers in front of one almighty stage.

It is undoubtedly one of the most distinctive and well-loved festivals on the calendar and the two UK Festival Awards for Best Major UK Festival and Outstanding Contribution to Festivals (awarded to John Giddings) are proof of just that.

The Isle of Wight Festival 2008 takes place from June 13 to 15 and tickets go on general sale at 9am on December 10 from Ticketzone, Whitelink and Red Funnel.

Tickets cost £130 (camping), £110 (non-camping), £65 (child camping), £55 (child non camping) and £250 (for campervans).
