James Blunt hits US top 10

James Blunt

Story by Jack Foley

JAMES Blunt is the latest UK artist to enjoy considerable success in America now that his debut album, Back To Bedlam, has reached number nine in the US album sales chart 16 weeks after its American release.

The CD sold more than 41,000 copies last week to rise four places in the chart, according to Nielsen Soundscan, building on the success it has enjoyed in recent times. Indeed, it has leapt a remarkable 40 spots on the chart in the past four weeks.

Back To Bedlam topped the UK chart for nine weeks following its UK release in October 2004, becoming 2005’s best seller.

But the artist has had to wait for success in America and will now fly to the US for a very special pre-Grammy Awards performance at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on February 7.

The current number one in the US album chart is Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx’s Unpredictable which has sold about 97,000 copies.

Eminem’s greatest hits collection, Curtain Call lies in third place with 74,000 sales, while the late Johnny Cash’s retrospective The Legend of Johnny Cash rose five places to number five having been boosted by the movie biopic, Walk the Line’s strong showing at the Golden Globes.
