Jay-Z tops Forbes' rappers' rich list

JAY-Z has topped a list of hip hop’s rich compiled by Forbes magazine.

The rapper made $37 million (£22m) in the past 12 months to claim his fourth top spot in the last five years.

P Diddy finished in second place, earning $35m (£21m), while Kanye West – who has just collaborated with Jay-Z on joint album Watch The Throne – takes third with $16m (£10m).

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Eminem tied for sixth spot at $14 million (£9m).

According to Forbes, Jay-Z made his cash from the end of his world Blueprint 3 tour and other business interests.

Earnings were calculated between May 2010 and May 2011 and based on data from Pollstar, Nielsen SoundScan, the Recording Industry Association of America and individual record labels.

Other high earners included Lil Wayne, with $15 million, Ludacris with $12 million and new hip hop hope Wiz Khalifa with $11 million (to land 11th place).

Former hip hop heavyweight 50 Cent is placed 18th on the list with $6 million.
