Keane's Tom Chaplin in rehab

Keane

Story by Jack Foley

KEANE frontman Tom Chaplin is being treated for drink and drug problems, according to a statement for the band.

The news follows the band’s decision to cancel shows in Edinburgh, Dublin and Ibiza because of claims the singer was suffering from “exhaustion”.

They did, however, perform in front of thousands at this weekend’s V Festival (August 19/20).

The announcement means that a planned tour of the US tour in September – where hopes were riding high in support of the second album Under The Iron Sea – has also been cancelled.

A statement on the band’s website from Chaplin reads: “I’ve been having to deal with an increasing problem with drink and drugs, and the time has come to get the professional help I need to sort myself out.

“I feel desperately disappointed to be letting down our fans but I want to get myself right now so that I can be back on the road for the rest of the year.”

Refunds for all the cancelled concerts should be sought at the point of purchase.

There is no news, as yet, as to whether the band’s planned UK tour in the autumn will be cancelled.

  1. Disappointed that Tom got mixed up in the drugs scene. My grandson thought I was cool being a fan. Not much of an example to his young fans, good luck though in his recovery. I hope he learns his lesson and uses this experience to tell the young ones drugs are not a good idea.

  2. I am very surprised as Tom does not seem the type to indulge in drink and drugs but on the other hand fame and fortune does this to you.
    Hope you get better soon.

  7. I don’t think Tom Chaplin has anything to prove to anyone – he never set himself up as an idol, after all. I’m sure he’ll do what he has to. Good luck to him.
