Kerrang! Awards 2007: Lostprophets triumph again

Lostprophets

Story by Jack Foley

WELSH rockers Lostprophets took the best British band award at the 2007 Kerrang! awards for the second year in a row.

In doing so, the band, which formed 10 years ago in Pontypridd, beat off the likes of pre-award favourites Muse and Enter Shikari, as well as Biffy Clyro and Funeral For A Friend.

It comes in addition to the double Kerrang! success they enjoyed last year, winning the award for best album as well.

Going into the ceremony, which took place at The Brewery in east London on Thursday (August 23), the focus was on the battle between four times nominees Enter Shikari and My Chemical Romance.

Enter Shikari won best live act and Spirit of Independence, while My Chemical Romance took best international band.

The best album prize went to San Francisco metal group Machine Head for The Blackening, while fellow Americans 30 Seconds To Mars – a band featuring actor Jared Leto – won best single for The Kill.

Machine Head also won a gong for Hard Rock Heroes.

In what proved a good night for US acts, Chicago-based Fall Out Boy won the best video prize for This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race and fellow Chicago act Madina Lake were named best international newcomers.

British band Gallows took the British equivalent trophy.

Industrial rock group Nine Inch Nails were presented with an icon award by Hollywood actress and rock singer Juliette Lewis in recognition of their long-standing career.

And Birmingham heavy metal veterans Judas Priest won the hall of fame honour. The band, which formed in 1968, have sold around 30 million albums globally.

Deftones were also honoured with the classic songwriter award for “creating memorable and timeless songs”.
