Kerrang! Awards 2010: Double win for Bullet For My Valentine

Bullet For My Valentine

Story by Jack Foley

BULLET For My Valentine took home two of the top prizes at this year’s Relentless Energy Drink Kerrang! Awards, including best British group for the third year running.

The Welsh rockers were also named best live band, following their headline appearance at this year’s Download Festival.

The band were the big winners at the ceremony, even though the awards were handed out pretty evenly to the nominated bands.

Pre-event favourites Paramore and 30 Seconds To Mars, who had both gone into the evening with four nods each, didn’t leave empty-handed.

Jared Leto’s band [30 Seconds To Mars] were named best international group, while Paramore took best album for Brand New Eyes.

Of the other big winners, Biffy Clyro took best video for The Captain, thereby raising the profile of their Mercury Music Prize nominated LP.

And London-based metal band Rise to Remain, who are fronted by Bruce Dickinson’s son Austin, were crowned best British newcomers.

The best international equivalent prize went to Californians Trash Talk.

The London ceremony also included two special awards, one of which placed veteran rockers Motley Crue into the Kerrang! hall of fame.

German band Rammstein, meanwhile, were presented with the inspiration award.

Two posthumous awards were also handed out – the icon award went to musician Ronnie James Dio, best known for performing in Rainbow, Black Sabbath and, up until his death in May, Heaven & Hell.

While Slipknot bassist and songwriter Paul Gray, who also died in May, was honoured with the Kerrang! services to metal award.
