Lady Gaga lands record 13 MTV Video Music Award nominations

LADY Gaga has landed a record 13 nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards.

The eccentric singer is way ahead of her fellow challengers going into the September 12 (2010) ceremony, with rapper Eminem trailing in her wake with eight nods.

Among her nominations haul, Lady Gaga is twice shortlisted for the prestigious video of the year prize, for her singles Bad Romance and Telephone – the latter of which also featured Beyonce.

And she is clearly delighted with the recognition, stating afterwards: “I’m so honoured for all the little monsters and self-possessed freaks of the universe.

“Ironically, I’m even more proud that it’s an unlucky number, 13.

“God put me on Earth for three reasons – to make loud music, gay videos and make a damn ruckus!” she added.

Lady Gaga’s work on Telephone attracted the most nominations of her songs, including best collaboration, where it faces a challenge from Alicia Keys and Jay-Z’s Empire State of Mind.

Eminem, meanwhile, has promised to give her a run for her money in the video of the year category for Not Afraid, while UK act Florence and the Machine is also in the running for Dog Days Are Over.

Other British acts who have made the shortlist include Coldplay, Gorillaz and Mercury-nominated folksters Mumford and Sons.
