Madonna announces Wembley dates (2006)

Story by Jack Foley

MADONNA has announced dates for her forthcoming world tour, including five dates at London’s Wembley Arena on August 1, 3, 9, 10 and 12, 2006.

The queen of pop will kick off the world tour in Los Angeles on May 21, ahead of dates across America, Europe and in Japan.

She will also play her first concert in Wales at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on July 30.

Commenting on the London dates, Madonna promised: “I’m going to turn the world into one big dancefloor.”

Tickets for Wembley go on sale at 9am BST on Friday, April 7, while Cardiff tickets will be available in a fortnight.

Members of Madonna’s fan club, Icon, can, however, buy tickets from Tuesday at 10am BST. Ticket prices range from £80 to £160.

After kicking off in LA, the North American leg of Madonna’s tour includes dates in Chicago, Boston, San Jose, Phoenix, Fresno, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Miami, Montreal and New York.

While European dates include venues in Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Hanover, Dusseldorf and Horsens in Denmark.

Japanese fans will be able to catch her in Osaka and Tokyo.

Madonna will also perform at her first music festival in California in April – playing the two-day Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival alongside Daft Punk and Massive Attack.

Costumes for the spectacular event will be designed by Jean Paul Gaultier.

Madonna’s last tour took place in 2004 when she played 56 shows worldwide, including dates in London. She is estimated to have taken $125m (£71m) in the process.

This current tour will be in support of her critically-acclaimed current album, Confessions on a Dancefloor.
