Madonna to play Radio 1's Big Weekend (2008)

Story by Jack Foley

MADONNA is to headline the main stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend on Saturday, May 10, in what has proved to be a major coup for the radio station.

The pop queen, who shot straight to No.1 in the UK singles chart with 4 Minutes (featuring Justin Timberlake) on Sunday (April 20, 2008), will play to some 30,000 fans at Mote Park in Maidstone, Kent.

She will be joined by more than 50 other bands and solo artists, including Robyn, Duffy, Scouting For Girls, and The Hoosiers, across the two-day event from May 10 to 11. The Kooks, whose sophomore album Konk currently tops the album charts, will headline the Sunday.

Listeners can currently register for tickets for one week until 10am on April 28 and successful applicants will receive a pair of tickets for either Saturday or Sunday.

Tickets will be allocated randomly, but weighted in favour of those living in Maidstone, Kent and the surrounding areas. A smaller amount will be distributed nationally.
