Michael Jackson continues UK chart dominance

Michael Jackson, King of Pop

Story by Jack Foley

MICHAEL Jackson has continued to dominate the UK music charts for a second week following his death, with 13 of his songs now among the top 40 best selling singles.

Man In The Mirror, his 1988 track, enjoys the highest position – at No.2 – just behind a new release from Euro-pop act Cascada, who scored their first UK No.1 with Evacuate The Dancefloor.

While Billie Jean, Thriller, Smooth Criminal and Beat It all feature in the top 20.

In the album charts, meanwhile, Jackson’s The Essential rose 19 places to take the No.1 spot, while four other albums are now in the top 10.

There has been a huge demand for Michael Jackson albums and singles following his death more than a week ago – and the late singer has almost doubled his presence in the singles chart from a week ago.

Interest in Jackson’s work shows no sign of diminishing, either, with media pundits predicting an even greater surge of support focused around the star’s memorial on Tuesday.

More than 1.6 million people had signed up for the chance to be at the ceremony, being held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with 17,500 fans discovering yesterday (Sunday) whether they’d been successful.
