POP legend Michael Jackson has reportedly died following a suspected cardiac arrest. He was 50-years-old.

News of the singer’s demise began to circulate after he was rushed to hospital in Los Angeles on Thursday (June 28, 2009) after paramedics were called to his singer’s home around midday local time.

Reports suggest he was rushed by ambulance to a medical centre, with reports from several US media outlets – including the Los Angeles Times and celebrity website TMZ – confirming that he had passed away.

Jackson had been due to begin a series of comeback concerts in the UK in on July 13.

But the singer has a history of health problems and has not completed a concert tour in 12 years.

The singer began his career as a child in family group The Jackson 5, but went on to achieve global fame as a solo artist with smash hits such as Thriller, Billie Jean and Bad.

Later years had been dogged by various controversies surrounding his personal life, and health, but only recently Jackson had announced plans for a comeback tour with a string of dates at London’s O2 Arena. Tickets, costing between £50 and £75, sold out in record time.

Crowds have begun to gather outside Jackson’s home to pay tribute and hold vigil.
