LADY Gaga dominated the MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast, collecting four prizes and stealing the spotlight by wearing a number of outrageous outfits.

The US pop star took home awards for best song, best video, best female and biggest fans at the ceremony, which was held in the Odyssey Arena.

Included among the head-turning outfits, meanwhile, was an oversized silver dress topped off by a satellite dish hat.

Yet she remained typically humble in victory, praising her fans for their continued support and insisting that she never expects to win anything.

“Thank you for believing in my vision; the success of Born This Way has changed my life,” she told the crowd.

The night’s other big winners were Justin Bieber and R&B singer Bruno Mars, who each received two prizes – the former for best male and best pop, the latter for best push and best new.

Katy Perry received the best live act accolade, Eminem won best hip-hop, Thirty Seconds To Mars were named best alternative performers and Linkin Park beat Coldplay to the best rock award.

In another of the night’s big surprises, Korean Band BigBang won the best world-wide category, beating off competition from such musical luminaries as Adele.

Queen received the global icon award, with band members Brian May and Roger Taylor picking up their honour on the night.

The lavish ceremony opened with Coldplay performing Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall from their new No.1 album and included a tribute to singer Amy Winehouse, who was found dead at her home in London in July.

It also extended beyond the arena, with a free outdoor performance from Snow Patrol at the City Hall that shut down the traffic in the town centre and attracted an audience of over 15,000 fans, as well as a performance from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who wowed MTV competition winners with an intimate 1,000-capacity gig at Ulster Hall.
