My Bloody Valentine announce 2008 dates

My Bloody Valentine

Story by Jack Foley

MY Bloody Valentine have announced details of their first live tour dates in 16 years – including three nights at London’s Roundhouse.

Formed in Dublin in 1984, the indie band were an important part in the shoegazing movement thanks to their use of guitar distortion, tremolo and digital reverb – but they have not released an album since 1991’s Loveless.

Rumours of a reunion first started to appear following an interview with Kevin Shields in the January/February 2007 issue of Magnet, in which he claimed that My Bloody Valentine would record another album.

It was also believed that they intended to play the 2008 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival – although this was denied by their manager.

However, the band WILL play five summer shows next year (2008), kicking off in London and concluding in Glasgow.

The shows are (all 2008):

20-22 – London Roundhouse
28 – Manchester Apollo

2 – Glasgow Barrowland

Tickets go on sale on Friday, November 16.

Editor’s note: The band added the two extra London dates at the Roundhouse on June 21 and 22 after selling out the original June 20 show in just six minutes on November 16.
