Neil Young

Story by Jack Foley

ROCK legend Neil Young is to perform in the UK next year (2008) for the first time in five years.

The influential singer-songwriter has lined up a total of seven dates in Edinburgh, London and Manchester, offering fans a rare chance to see him perform material from his most recent album, Chrome Dreams II.

The tour will commence at Edinburgh’s Playhouse on March 3, and will be followed by four nights at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on March 5, 6, 8 and 9.

Young, now 62 and who was treated for a brain aneurysm in 2005, will then conclude the tour with two nights at the Manchester Apollo on March 11 and 12.

According to the NME, the singer will play two sets at each gig – an acoustic and an electric performance. Tickets are on sale now.

Young is one of the music industry’s most prolific and durable artists, having embraced a wide range of musical styles over his four-decade career.

The Toronto-born performer is also one of rock’s most political artists, thanks to such classic anthems as Rockin’ In The Free World and Ohio. His 2006 album, Living With War, was also a collection of songs against the war in Iraq.
