Nizlopi's JCB Song hits No.1

Nizlopi

Story by Jack Foley

INDIE duo Nizlopi have hit the No.1 spot with their single, JCB Song, beating Westlife and Diana Ross and dramatically shortening their odds of achieving a Xmas No.1.

The song, about a boy on a JCB, is now the second favourite to hit the festive top spot and marks a major achievement for the previously unknown folk pop duo, aka 27-year-olds Luke Concannon and John Parker from Leamington Spa.

The quirky JCB Song beat When You Tell Me That You Love Me by Westlife, featuring US star Diana Ross.

X Factor winner, Shayne Ward, remains the favourite to be the Christmas number one, announced on Christmas Day, as his record is released closer to the occasion.

But that should not diminish from the achievement of Nizlopi who released JCB Song on their own FDM label.

The track tells about a boy enjoying a ride in a JCB with his father, wishing that he could use the empowerment he feels to tackle bullies at his school.

Commenting on the success, Luke Concannon told the BBC: “This feels quite amazing really because we just didn’t think that we would get a No.1.

“It is great that a tiny family-run record label from Warwickshire can go up against acts such as Westlife and the X Factor winner, who are on massive record labels.”
