O2 Wireless Festival 2007: The White Stripes and Kaiser Chiefs headline

The White Stripes

Story by Jack Foley

THE White Stripes, Daft Punk, Faithless and Kaiser Chiefs will headline the O2 Wireless Festival 2007 between June 14 and 17 in London’s Hyde Park.

Joining them will be Queens of the Stone Age, CSS, Just Jack, Badly Drawn Boy, The Rakes, Editors, The Cribs and The Twang to name a few!

Now in its third year the O2 Wireless Festival has firmly stamped its mark on the festival map.

Last year saw the launch of the festival in Leeds, and both return for 2007, bringing the event back to two of the UK’s most cosmopolitan cities.

First up this year, The White Stripes will play their only UK show this summer as they bring some American rock to London on June 14.

The Grammy Award winning Detroit duo will showcase tracks from Icky Thump‚ their album out in June, kicking things off in true rock ‘n’ roll style.

Joining them from the US will be the legendary Queens Of The Stone Age, who will also be playing their only show in the UK ahead of the release of their new album in June.

Next up, it’s Forever Faithless on June 15 as Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo get set to enlighten the crowds with what is sure to be an electric performance.

Far from New Arrivals they will fill the open air with their eclectic dance tracks, proving once again that God really is a DJ!

Proud to be playing on home turf Faithless says: “We are very excited to headline the O2 Wireless Festival 2007 in Hyde Park – it means a great deal to us to play in our hometown in such a special environment, and to support all the up and coming artists on the bill.

“Hyde Park is a beautiful space, it’s charged with so much meaning – it’s seen countless anti-war marches, grand orations in speakers corner, and rock ‘n’ roll history has been made here too -as the politically charged London band that we are, that suits us down to the ground! We look forward to having a wonderful night.”

Joining them will be Badly Drawn Boy and North London lad Just Jack.

June 16 will see Daft Punk take to the main stage for the headline slot. As one of the most successful electronic music collaborations of all time, the mysterious French duo are renowned for their phenomenal performances and ever-changing costumes. This will be their only English performance this year.

Joining Daft Punk in getting the crowds moving will be ‚‘new ravers’ CSS, the extravagant Brazilian group.

Kaiser Chiefs were undoubtedly one of the biggest success stories of 2006 and they’re back, bigger and better for 2007 as they headline the final day of the festival on June 17.

Nick Hodgson from the Kaiser Chiefs says: “When we heard that Wireless was going to be in Leeds as well as London Hyde Park we were well up for it, and they’re letting us pick the bill for the day we’re headlining.

“It’s going to be massive and it’ll be our biggest headline shows to date. We’re going to start saving up for the lasers now”

Hand picked by the Kaiser Chiefs, Birmingham boys the Editors will also be showcasing songs from their new album (released in May) as part of the line-up, along with The Cribs and The Rakes.

Hotly-tipped newcomers The Twang will complete the line-up on the Friday, having recently picked up the Philip Hall Radar Award at the ShockWaves NME Awards.

With Channel 4 and XFM broadcasting highlights from the event, the O2 Wireless Festival looks all set to be both London and Leeds live summer music event of the year.

Tickets go on general sale on March 16, but from Monday (12) O2 customers get exclusive access to buy the hottest tickets in town before anyone else!
