O2 Wireless Festival 2008: Morrissey confirmed as third headliner

Story by Jack Foley

MORRISSEY, Beck and The National have all been confirmed to play this year’s O2 Wireless Festival in London’s Hyde Park on the Friday night of the four-day spectacle (July 4, 2008).

Morrissey’s headline appearance will mark his only UK festival appearance of 2008 and he has promised “a thundering bill of tight nerves and suavity”.

The singer added: “I will take Hyde Park like a flea inhabits a dog.”

He will be joined by brilliant US singer Beck and rock band The National across the event’s three stages. Tickets, which are certain to sell fast, went on pre-sale from Tuesday, March 25 via 02. They will also be available from the Live Nation website from March 26, to registered members.

Morrissey’s appearance – which is also his first in London since he was forced to cancel dates in January at the Roundhouse because of a lost voice – comes in addition to a line-up that already includes Fatboy Slim – aka DJ Norman Cook – and Counting Crows on the third and fourth nights at the event.

As yet, the headline act for the first night of the festival (which runs from July 3 to 6, 2008) has not been announced. But stay tuned…
