Pharrell and Al Gore announce new Live Earth concerts

Story by Jack Foley

A SECOND round of Live Earth concerts are to be staged in six locations around the globe, it has been announced by Pharrell Williams and Al Gore.

The gigs are aimed at raising further awareness of climate change and come eight years after the original, which featured stars such as Madonna, The Police and Metallica.

Taking place on June 18, 2015, the hosts will be Paris, New York, Brazil, South Africa, China and Australia – with one band rumoured to be taking part from Antarctica. However, as yet none of the artists who will be taking part have been announced.

Launching the event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Mr Gore said the aim for this round of Live Earth gigs was to have “a billion voices with one message: to demand climate action now”.

The former US Vice President, who has been active on climate control for many years now, aims to raise the pressure on world leaders to adopt an ambitious new climate accord at the Paris UN climate talks in December.

As yet, there is no plan for a UK show despite Wembley Stadium being one of the major venues in 2007.
