Pixies announce November UK tour with new bassist (2013)
Story by Jack Foley
PIXIES have announced details of a new UK tour for November, as well as a new bassist.
Kim Shattuck will replace Kim Deal, the announcement on the band’s website reveals.
“Please welcome Kim Shattuck,” says the group in a statement. “Kim will be playing bass guitar/backing vocals on the upcoming tour announced today.
“You may know Kim from LA band The Muffs and previously from The Pandoras. We are delighted that she will be joining us on stage.”
The UK and European dates are being billed as the first leg of an “extensive world tour”, which starts on Sunday, September 29 in Paris, France. They include dates in Dublin, Manchester and Glasgow before rounding off with a night in London.
Tickets for the Ireland show are on sale now and those for the UK shows go on sale tomorrow, July 2 at 9am.
Singer Black Francis has promised a keen mix of old hits and rarely performed tracks, saying: “Along with everyone’s favourites, we’ll be playing songs that we haven’t played in ages or never played live before. Songs like Brick is Red, Havalina, Tony’s Theme and Sad Punk.
“We’ve probably rehearsed some 80 songs, so we’ll be able to change up the set at the last minute if we feel like it. We’re all really looking forward to this tour.”
The UK dates are (all November 2013):
18 – Dublin Olympia
21 – Manchester Apollo
22 – Glasgow Barrowland
24 – London Hammersmith Apollo
