Prince to get lifetime achievement award

PRINCE is to be honoured with a lifetime achievement prize at the Black Entertainment TV (BET) awards later this month.

The singer, best known for albums such as Purple Rain, will collect his accolade on the 10th anniversary of the awards.

Commenting on their selection, Stephen G Hill, BET president of programming, said: “Prince is dynamic. Prince is genius. Prince is music.”

The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on June 27, 2010 and will be hosted by Queen Latifah.

In a glittering career, Prince has amassed 10 platinum albums and enjoyed 30 Top 40 singles.

This year’s BET awards will include performances from Kanye West, Diddy and Dirty Money and Ludacris.

Nominees for further awards include Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Usher, Maxwell, Jay-Z and the Black-Eyed Peas.

Jay-Z leads the field with five nods, while his wife Beyonce has four.
