Reading and Leeds Festival 2008: The Killers, Rage Against The Machine and Metallica headline

The Killers

Story by Jack Foley

RAGE Against The Machine, The Killers and Metallica have been confirmed as the three headline acts at this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals (2008).

They will be joined by fellow US acts such as Queens of the Stone Age and The Raconteurs, as well as British rockers Editors, Dirty Pretty Things and Pete Doherty’s Babyshambles.

The event takes place, as usual, at Richfield Avenue in Reading and Bramham Park in Leeds from August 22 to 24 and tickets are now on sale.

A big American presence at the festival had been hinted at in January, when organiser Melvin Benn leaked that three US bands would be topping the bill.

“[What’s] interesting this year is that, probably for the first time in my memory, we’re actually going with three American headliners,” he said.

This year’s event is also notable for no longer having a sponsor in the titles – although Mr Benn said that he will not be seeking a replacement for previous backer Carling.

Further acts to look out for on the star-studded bill include Manic Street Preachers, who will headline the NME/Radio 1 Stage, Feeder, We Are Scientists and MGMT.
