Red Hot Chili Peppers to headline Isle of Wight Festival 2014
Story by Jack Foley
THE Red Hot Chili Peppers have been confirmed as the Saturday night headline act for this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.
The performance, on Saturday, June 14, 2014, will be the band’s only UK gig in 2014.
A statement from the Red Hot Chili Peppers said: “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, following in the footsteps of Jimi Hendrix and The Doors. When we were offered the slot, we jumped at the chance.”
The Red Hot Chili Peppers last performed at a UK festival in 2007 when they headlined Reading and Leeds.
Festival promoter John Giddings commented: “Finally, we’ve got them. One of the most exciting rock bands of the modern era come to visit and judging by the performances I have seen previously, will be a highlight in the music history of the festival.”
Friday night’s main stage headliner has previously been announced as Biffy Clyro. Calvin Harris will also perform a headline set.
Other acts to have been confirmed so far are Passenger, Rudimental, The 1975 and The Waterboys.
The Isle of Wight Festival takes place at Seaclose Park from June 12-15, 2014.
