Redfest 2008: The Maccabees and Does It Offend You Yeah on bill

Does It Offend You Yeah

Story by Jack Foley

REDFEST is yet another new music festival for the summer, taking place in parkland near Redhill, Surrey (a mere 15 miles from London), from July 4 and 5, 2008.

Acts confirmed so far include The Maccabees, Lightspeed Champion and Does It Offend You, Yeah? (pictured).

With a music policy spanning indie, rock, electro and dance, Redfest’s organisers believe there’s enough variety to capture the imagination of today’s iPod generation.

A small independently run festival, Redhill’s ethos is simple: take it back to how it used to be. It’s all about the music, with a gathering of likeminded souls united in the spirit of musical discovery and a sense of freedom.

Promoter Matt Nichols explained: “In today’s crowded festival market, there aren’t that many independently run festivals who are putting on events without jumping into bed with the big corporations. How many festivals these days feel soulless?

“With Redfest, I want to reduce the emphasis on gimmicks and corporate sponsorship and take things back to basics so today’s youth can have the same experience that previous generations of festival goers had: an event put on purely with music in mind.”

With a snug 5,000 capacity Redfest is big enough to feel like other weekend festivals but small enough to find your friends if you lose them. They’ll be loads of bars, regularly cleaned toilets, great food stalls, lots of silly fun to be had and of course some of the best up and coming talent on the Main Stage.

So, who’s playing?

So far, the line-up is fronted by The Maccabees, a young band making big strides towards becoming part of the grand tradition of historic British legends following the acclaimed release of their debut LP Colour It In last year.

It also boasts emerging acts Lightspeed Champion, Does It Offend You, Yeah? (pictured, Late Of The Pier, Elliot Minor, Winter Kids, Operator Please, Fear Of Music, Ebony Bones, This City, Johnny Foreigner, Pete and The Pirates, I Haunt Wizards, SixNationState and Robots In Disguise. Headline acts are still to be announced.

But all this is available for a mere £64, plus booking fee!

Redfest are also looking for unsigned bands from the Surrey/Sussex area details can be found at
