Ronan Keating stamp issued for Father's Day and Barnardo's

Barnardo's

Story by Jack Foley

BOYZONE star Ronan Keating is one of a number of celebrity dads who are helping kids across the United Kingdom this Father’s Day, creating his very own set of charity stamps for Royal Mail to raise money for children’s charity Barnardo’s.

The limited edition set of Smilers stamps feature an exclusive image supplied by Ronan Keating of his family, as his representation of what fatherhood most means to him. Ronan is joined by Editor of GQ Dylan Jones, as another famous father supporting the campaign.

In the first of its kind, the exclusive sheets of Smilers stamps personally signed by Ronan and Dylan are available to bid on a 10-day auction at www.eBay.co.uk from Friday, June 12, with the listing due to close on Father’s Day at midnight.

Smilers are a unique way to personalise your post by combining one of your own photos with a Royal Mail stamp.

The charity auction follows on the back of several successful Smilers initiatives from Royal Mail in the lead up to Mother’s Day in recent years.

Stars such as Helena Christensen, Elizabeth Hurley, Rod Stewart, Rankin and Jasmine Guinness have all donated never before seen images to create their exclusive Smilers stamps, helping to raise in excess of £15,000 for some fantastic causes over the last two years.

All money raised will be donated to Barnardo’s – the UK’s leading children’s charity which works with more than 100,000 children, young people and their families each year.

Barnardo’s delivers specialised support via its 383 local services for the UK’s most vulnerable children exposed to domestic violence, poverty, drug misuse, crime, homelessness and much more.

Ronan Keating, currently touring the UK with Boyzone, said: “I’m really glad to be involved in such a positive initiative, and be able to support a fantastic cause. The image that I have chosen means the world to me as a Father, and I am pleased that my photography can be used in a way that benefits others.”

Liz Cox, Barnardo’s Director of Fundraising, is delighted about the charity initiative. She commented: “It is fantastic to be able to announce such a great link up between Barnardo’s and Royal Mail. We are incredibly grateful to Ronan and Dylan for donating their special images. The money raised will make a real difference to the children and young people we support in local projects throughout the United Kingdom.”

Dylan Jones, Editor of GQ magazine, added: “I love the photo on this stamp as it reminds me of one of the most precious things in my life, spending time with my wonderful daughters. I really hope to be able to help Royal Mail raise a lot of money for Barnardo’s, such a fantastic charity that is so deserving of our support.”

Julietta Edgar, from Royal Mail, commented: “This is the first time we have ever run such an auction in the lead up to Father’s Day, and we really hope this will capture the public’s imagination and help raise considerable funds for Barnardo’s. It is fantastic to have Ronan Keating and Dylan Jones on board, we are keen to raise as much money as possible for a worthwhile cause so get bidding!”
