Scholars released their debut album Always Lead, Never Follow in April to great critical acclaim. Last month, they also released a limited edition companion EP Never Follow, Always Lead featuring unreleased tracks, cover songs and alternative versions.
Chris Aylett (bass) explains: “While writing our own songs and creating things from nothing is what drives our band, we’ve always got a kick out of playing covers. They’d often come together by accident during breaks at rehearsal, sometimes starting off as a joke and ending up sounding good.
“We also love taking our own songs to pieces and totally reinterpreting them. It’s a pretty healthy process, it helps you to figure out what’s good and what’s not so good about what you do.”
