Scissor Sisters to headline Bestival (2006)

Scissor Sisters

Story by Jack Foley

NEW York’s Scissor Sisters are to headline the three-day Bestival in Newport, on the Isle of White, from September 8 to 10, 2006.

The hip music-makers will take to the stage on Sunday night to round off the festival in style in what is their only confirmed UK date this summer. It may also provide fans with a sneak preview of some of their new material from their new album, due out in November.

The Scissor Sisters will follow Saturday night’s headliners, Pet Shop Boys, in what promises to be one of the best events ever arranged by Rob da Bank.

Also included in the line-up are…

Mystery Jets – Hot new UK indie act line-up for a Friday main stage mash-up. The band promise to revisit their Making Dens LP as well as playing some new stuff.

Hot Chip – Three years on the trot for the electronic wizards at Bestival!

John Martyn – Folk, rock and blues outfit from Ireland. If you’ve never heard it, Hot Chip’s 1973 LP, Solid Air is pure quality having coming from the man who was mates with Jimi Hendrix, Nick Drake and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry!

Nizlopi – The Christmas chart-busters show that their music is not all about the JCB!

Breaks Co-Op – Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe’s band that he started with Hamish Clark in New Zealand back in the late nineties.

Son Of Dave – Popular one-man band returns for his second year at Bestival

Metronomy – Hot underground electronics from Franz Ferdinand’s favourite remixer

The Bikini Beach Band – Guaranteed to provide some brilliant surf cover versions.

Christ – Ex-member of Boards of Canada playing a very rare live set.

Psapp – Hottest property in music made from toys and found sounds.

DJs appearing at the Bestival include Ricardo Villalobos, Terry Hall, Huw Stephens, Vicarious Bliss, Ulrich Schnauss, Múm (DJ set), Annie Nightingale, Nick Luscombe, John Stapleton and Bugged Out!

Unfortunately, all day tickets to this year’s Bestival have now sold out. But a non-sslanders full weekend ticket (incl camping) costs £105 (adult) and £52.50 (child). Isle of Wight residents (& NUS) full weekend tickets (incl camping) cost £95 (adult) and £47.50 (child).
