Serpentine Sessions 2010: Support acts announced

Alessi's Ark

Story by Jack Foley

THE support acts for this year’s Serpentine Sessions in Hyde Park (2010) have now been announced.

Joining headline acts Grizzly Bear, Patti Smith and her band and Laura Marling are Efterklang, Fionn Regan, Dawn Kinnard, The Boy Who Trapped the Sun and Eliza Doolittle, Fanfarlo, Peggy Sue, Smoke Fairies and Alessi’s Ark (pictured).

The main support for the opening night of this year’s Serpentine Sessions – on June 28 – will come from the Danish indie pop-rock outfit Efterklang.

Hailing from Copenhagen, they have recently released their third studio album, Magic Chairs, on the well respected British label 4AD and have received wide critical acclaim.

Taking to the main stage on June 29 supporting world-renowned punk rock poet laureate Patti Smith and her band will be Irish singer-songwriter and Mercury-nominated Fionn Regan, offering a perfect warm up with his electric rock sound.

The acoustic stage will see the distinctly unique Dawn Kinnard bring her hugely charismatic presence to the summer line-up alongside the genuine guitar talent of The Boy Who Trapped The Sun and the hotly tipped Eliza Doolittle, who will be showcasing her undeniably sunny melodies.

Folk songstress Laura Marling is set to headline the final night of Serpentine Sessions on July 1 with main support coming from London-based quintet Fanfarlo. Also confirmed for the acoustic stage on July 1 is Brighton based indie folk band, Peggy Sue.

There will also be dark, lustful blues-folk in the shape of the Smoke Fairies and singer-songwriter Alessi’s Ark to bring the Sessions to a close.
