ShockWaves NME Awards Tour 2008: Line-up announced

Nine Black Alps

Story by Jack Foley

NINE Black Alps (pictured), The Twang, The Pigeon Detectives and The Wombats are among the bands confirmed to play the ShockWaves NME Awards Shows in 2008.

Kicking off on February 7, 2008, and boasting 16 nights of musical mayhem, the shows are designed to whip fans up in to a frenzy of anticipation for the ShockWaves NME Awards on February 28, 2008.

First up, will be The Pigeon Detectives, who have the honour of kicking off the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour 2008 as they play London’s Astoria.

After bursting on to the music scene this year with their debut album Wait For Me, the Leeds lads are set to demonstrate what all the hype’s about.

Les Savy (10), Richard Hawley (12), Simian Mobile Disco (13), Justice (14), Enter Shikari (24) and Young Knives (26) are also set to play The Astoria venue throughout the month.

On February 8, Manchester rockers Nine Black Alps will kick off Koko’s run in Camden, with New Young Pony Club (12), Black Francis (13), Hadouken! (18), The Gutter Twins (21) and Band Of Hourses (26) all set to follow in their wake.

And Shepherd’s Bush Empire will see Birmingham boys The Twang hit the stage on February 9. Completing the line-up are Dizzee Rascal (17) and indie pop gods in waiting, The Wombats (25).

Finally, on February 26, Reverend and The Makers will touch down at Camden’s Round House. The Sheffield based band have earned a reputation for getting crowds dancing and are sure to live up to that as they bring some electro funk to the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour 2008.

Tickets are available online at www.nme.com/gigs from Monday, November 26, or by calling NME Tickets on 08712 901094.

The ShockWaves NME Awards Shows have developed a reputation for showcasing the best in both new and established music talent.

NME Editor Conor McNicholas said: “The Shockwaves NME Awards Shows deliver the greatest festival of new music London sees all year. It’s a mammoth event spread across masses of venues.

“This isn’t just a collection of gigs, it’s a series of nights like no other – more great headliners delivered one after another than you’ll see anywhere and line-ups stretching to four bands that take in masses of the very hottest new bands around. It really is something very special and I’m particularly proud of this year’s line-up.”
