Simply Red announce farewell tour dates (2010)

SIMPLY Red have announced details of their farewell tour dates, concluding with a night at London’s O2 Arena in December.

Announcing the tour, which will take in most of the world, lead singer Mick Hucknall said: “Welcome to the final year of 25 mind blowing years. What an adventure it has been!”

Since their first tour in 1985, Simply Red have played over 1,100 shows to over 11 million people, notched up over 55 million global sales, over 31 Top 40 UK singles, 3 BRIT Awards, 2 Ivor Novellos, 2 US No.1 Singles and a MOBO Special Achievement.

“I could never have imagined my career would bring me so far,” continued Hucknall. “We want to share this closing anniversary with all the people who have enjoyed our sound throughout the years.

“Celebrate it and gently move on to the second half of a musical story. We all hope to see you at a show somewhere soon.”

Simply Red’s final UK farewell dates are (all November/December 2010):

10 – Glasgow SECC
12 – Manchester MEN Arena
14 – Birmingham NIA
16 – Sheffield Arena
18 – London O2 Arena

The band will play their final farewell shows in South America in April, then in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK from September to December.

The announcement of the Farewell tour coincides with the release of a new Simply Red album, Songs of Love, on February 28 – just in time for Mothers Day. It features Simply Red’s finest love songs and two new recordings.

The first is a very personal Hucknall song, I Have The Love, and the second is a new recording of Beside You, a song which appeared originally on the soundtrack to the movie What Dreams May Come.
