Skillet announce first ever UK shows (2014)
Story by Jack Foley
TWO-time Grammy nominated rock band Skillet have announced their first ever UK dates.
The band will play three gigs in October, including a night at London’s O2 Islington Academy.
They commented: “We can’t wait to rock out with our fans on our first ever UK headline tour! Our UK fans have been so loyal and have been waiting for this for a long time! We are planning an incredible full length set with all the works. UK here we come!”
Skillet’s current album Rise features the singles Sick Of It and Not Gonna Die and follows the band’s 2009 release, Awake, which was certified platinum for sales in excess of one million copies in the US.
Remarkably, Skillet was the only active rock band to achieve platinum certification last year, and one of only three rock bands (the other two being Mumford & Sons and The Black Keys) to strike platinum that year.
Skillet (Cooper, guitarist/keyboardist Korey Cooper, drummer/vocalist Jen Ledger and guitarist Seth Morrison) recorded the album in Los Angeles, where they re-teamed with producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, All American Rejects), who helmed Awake.
The tour dates are (all October 2014):
12 – The Garage, Glasgow
13 – Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton
14 – O2 Islington Academy, London
