Smashing Pumpkins reunion is on!

Smashing Pumpkins

Story by Jack Foley

THE Smashing Pumpkins look certain to reform now that former member, Melissa Auf Der Maur has spilled the beans.

A statement issued by a spokesman for Azoff Management also confirmed that Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin have signed on with the firm and are in the process of writing new material.

Rumours of a possible Smashing Pumpkins reunion have been rife ever since Corgan took out an advert in the Chicago Tribune newspaper stating that his heart remained with the band

Speculation mounted that the band would make one of their first appearances at this year’s Coachella Festival – and then Lollapalooza.

But while neither have proved true, Auf Der Maur told MTV news that, as far as she knew, Billy ‘will be making another Pumpkins record over the next little while’.

She refused to confirm whether he had approached guitarist James Iha or D’Arcy Wretzky to complete the original line-up, but added that she would be more than happy to fill in as bass player.

“I love the Pumpkins and to play those songs again would be nothing but fun for me,” she said. “It was a big part of my life.”

Corgan and Auf Der Maur have recently collaborated on a track for Auf Der Maur’s second solo album, so they are very much in touch.

But she had a word of warning for her former chums – whether she is a part of the reunion or not.

Any comeback should be done properly and not rushed – ‘the record should be the absolute best it can be’, she concluded.

Stay tuned for further updates as we receive them…
