Sophie DeBattista to open for Ciara in London after winning unsigned competition
Story by Jack Foley
NINETEEN-year-old West London singer Sophie DeBattista has won the right to open for American RnB star Ciara at the O2 Arena (Indigo 2) London on Friday, June 14, 2013.
The Anglo/Maltese singer-songwriter won the Musicalize UK Unsigned Competition with her original acoustic song, Independent Miss.
The song was initially picked up by the organisers and made the final 13 of the event, during which a week long voting took place via Facebook. Sophie emerged as a strong winner.
She commented: “When me and my dear friend Elton Zarb wrote this song, we knew it was something special. So, we are absolutely delighted that it has been recognized in this way.
“I am so happy with this ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity and am looking forward to learning a lot from it! Hope to see many of my followers at the concert and would love to meet them after the concert. Also am eternally grateful to all who support me and my music!!”
Musicalize is described as a live music event like no other!
It features a night of amazing live music performed by some of the finest unsigned artists in the UK.
Gracing the stage in previous years have been several established artists including Professor Green, Dappy and Tinchy Stryder.
