Suzanne Vega announces UK summer tour (2010)

Suzanne Vega

Story by Jack Foley

HIGHLY influential US singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega returns to the UK for an all-too-rare tour this Summer, in support of her new album Close-Up Vol.1, Love Songs – a set of all new acoustic studio recordings of her best loved songs.

Following in a rich tradition of folk-tinged US singer/songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, and Ricky Lee Jones, Vega’s breakthrough came with her seminal 1987 album Solitude Standing, which spawned gems like Marlene on the Wall, Luka and Tom’s Diner.

The brilliant remix of Tom’s Diner by rap duo DNA in 1992 introduced her work to a global audience, and the ripples of that success have probably been felt in the pop and folk pool on both sides of the Atlantic ever since.

The UK tour dates take place in June 2010 and include a night at London’s Cadogan Hall (price, £27.50). Tickets are on sale now and the dates are…

14 – Salford The Lowr
16 – London Cadogan Hall
17 – Basingstoke Anvil
19 – Birmingham Town Hall
20 – Gateshead Sage
