The JD Set presents The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

Story by Jack Foley

HAVING just finished a sell-out tour of the UK with a line-up of hotly anticipated new bands, including Little Boots, VV Brown, Esser and Howling Bells, The JD Set is riding high.

Its reputation for delivering the most talked about bands of the moment will receive a further boost with news of May’s Luminaire gig on Friday (15) with The Asteroids Galaxy Tour and Official Secrets Act.

To give each gig on the five-date tour a unique twist Jack Daniel’s are inviting David Gedge, of The Wedding Present, to host and perform and one-off collaboration at each night.

The Wedding Present formed in 1985 and continue to have appeal today, most recently having featured in a page spread in the NME. John Peel was a huge champion and several recordings made during his Radio 1 show went on to be released.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour hail from Copenhagen and formed in the summer of 2007. When they play as a live band there are 6 members but when writing and recording there is only Lars and Mette.

UK radio support has been building for the Danish twosome with Mark Radcliff at Radio 2 saying: “A fairly irresistible single… terrific.”

Official Secrets Act describe themselves as “of the pop persuasion”, they make no secret of the fact their influences include The Libertines and the French Resistance in equal measure. Having formed a year ago in Leeds, the band came together through a common knowledge of British military victories.

This JD Set Tour will form part of a bespoke Channel 4 TV series running every Friday night for ten weeks from April 3, 2009. Each band will feature in an individual 15-minute show that includes behind-the-scenes interviews with Russ Tannen.
