The Stills announce UK dates (2008)

The Stills

Story by Jack Foley

MONTREAL outfit The Stills have announced four UK tour dates, including two nights in London in November.

The band, who release their new album Oceans Will Rise, through Arts & Crafts on October 20, 2008 will play the following dates in 2008.

Tuesday, November 25 – London, Cargo
Wednesday, November 26 – Manchester, Night & Day
Thursday, November 27 – Glasgow, Stereo
Friday, November 28 – London Koko Club NME

Formed in Montreal in 2000, and shortly thereafter relocated to New York as one of the first signings to Vice Recordings, The Stills rose to prominence in 2004 with the release of their debut album, Logic Will Break Your Heart, which spawned the hit singles Still In Love Song and Lola Stars and Stripes.

Most recently, on July 20, 2008, The Stills found themselves opening for Sir Paul McCartney before a crowd of a quarter of a million at Quebec City’s massive 400th Year Anniversary.

Overawed by the occasion (“To be sure, the honour was completely ours, and at times threatens to completely overwhelm,” said the band at the time), they still managed a cheeky segue of their Don’t Talk Down into McCartney’s Two Of Us.

In late September, they hit New York for headline dates before embarking on a major US tour – hand-picked by Kings Of Leon as openers for shows kicking off in Las Vegas on October 11.

The new album, meanwhile, finds them working once again with producer Gus van Go and it’s immediately obvious that it showcases a reinvigorated band armed with a razor-sharp sense of melody and a wholly rejuvenated sense of itself.

Tickets for the UK dates are £9 (Manchester) and £11 (London).
