The Stone Roses launch interactive new website

Stone Roses

Story by Jack Foley

IF YOU’RE going to reissue “the greatest album of all time” (NME), you might as well do it in style.

The Stone Roses debut album is re-released on August 10 in 4 deluxe formats to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its release.

Prior to that, their Silvertone singles will be reissued – one a week – on 7” vinyl and digitally with their original sleeve artwork. Starting with Elephant Stone on July 6, the set culminates with the band’s first top 5 hit, the epic One Love. Due to demand, Sony will also release Fools Gold on CD.

The new official website has also been launched at featuring all the latest news, videos, a gig archive and podcasts featuring the Roses themselves and the likes of Oasis’ Noel Gallagher.

The main attraction of the site is the interactive chart, which allows fans to log in and vote for their favourite Roses content on the web, be it videos, blogs or photos.

With the Roses being such a seminal act, there is no end to the content that could appear in the chart and is a perfect way for fans to re-live the memories of the band.

A rapidly growing Facebook group has formed by fans already to campaign to get Fools Gold to No.1 on release.

Each iTunes bundle will also feature previously unheard recordings from the band.

The singles are (all July and August 2009):

6 – Elephant Stone (with limited edition box, plus 5 art prints)
13 – Made Of Stone
20 – She Bangs The Drums
27 – Fools Gold

3 – One Love

A highly collectable 7” box will be made available with limited copies of the first single Elephant Stone. This will contain art prints of the John Squire paintings for each of the reissued 7’s and collectors can store the following four singles in it.
