The Wombats announce three November shows (2008)

The Wombats

Story by Jack Foley

THE WOMBATS have announced three new headline live dates for November 2008, including two nights in London.

The gigs will take place at Matter (Fabric’s new venue within the O2 Arena) on November 15 and London’s Coronet on November 16, which will see the band play an unusually intimate show.

Prior to that, The Wombats will also play Glasgow Academy on November 13.

The dates come alongside The Wombats’ massive headline show at the new Liverpool Echo Arena on November 22, at which they will become one of the first indie bands to play the 10,000 capacity venue amidst a sea of more established pop acts like Duran Duran and Elton John.

Tickets for the three newly announced dates will go on sale on Friday, May 23, at 9am – the same day as they play a unique one-off headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

On that occasion, they will be the first band to take part in the Albert Hall’s new initiative, ‘The Albert Sessions’.

True to form, The Wombats will also be kept busy until their November dates with a plethora of festival appearances. They will co-headline the NME/Radio 1 stage at Reading and Leeds and play the Other Stage at Glastonbury (with a guest performance from Peter Hook), as well as performances at T In The Park, Isle of Wight and Oxegen.

Meanwhile, in Europe they will play at no fewer than 17 festivals, including Ibiza Rocks and Pukkelpop – not forgetting quick trips to Japan to play Summer Sonic and Australia for Splendour!
