Travis announce UK autumn tour and new album (2008)

Story by Jack Foley

TRAVIS have announced a full UK tour for the autumn to coincide with the release of their new album, Ode To J Smith.

The 13-date tour kicks off at Inverness on September 22 and concludes at London’s Astoria on October 8, 2008.

Having scored a No.1 on the indie singles chart with their limited edition EP J Smith Travis will also release a new single – Something Anything – on September 15.

Landing someplace between the breakthrough stomp of Good Feeling and garage band overdrive of All I Wanna Do Is Rock, the tough, beat-led grooves and guitar licks of Something Anything are indicative of Travis’s forthcoming album Ode To J Smith – the first to be written on electric guitar since their debut, and due for release on September 29 on Travis’s own label Red Telephone Box.

Something Anything is available on 7”, CD single and as a download. Additional tracks include Travis’s cover of The Kinks classic Lola and two new songs all unavailable elsewhere.

The full tour dates are as follows (all 2008):

22 – Inverness, Ironworks
23 – Aberdeen, Music Hall
25 – Edinburgh, Picture House
28 – Manchester, The Ritz
29 – Liverpool, Academy
30 – Wolverhampton, Wulfrun Hall

2 – Newcastle, University
3 – Norwich, UEA
4 – Portsmouth, Pyramids Centre
6 – Bath, Pavillion
7 – Sheffield, Leadmill
