Underage Festival to return to London (2008)

Underage Festival

Story by Jack Foley

FOLLOWING the success of last year’s sold-out Underage Festival, the event is returning to the playground of Victoria Park for its second year.

The inaugural incarnation of the festival [in 2007] was a huge summer success with performances from the likes of Jack Penate, The Pigeon Detectives, Foals, Mystery Jets, Patrick Wolf, The Metros and Scouting for Girls among the highlights across the stages.

Now, with the regular club nights going from strength to strength and Underage gigs popping up all over the country, 2008 will see the original purveyors returning for an even bigger musical showcase this time around. The event will take place in London’s Victoria Park on August 8, 2008.

What’s more, the organizers will be increasing the capacity this year from 5,000 to 7,000 to meet the insatiable demand from the underage music scene (ie, anyone under 18 years of age).

Commenting on this year’s event, Andrew Reid, Head of Marketing UK for Converse, said: “Converse was pleased to be part of the 2007 festival, as we had great success both on site and off site with the Underage Organisation.

“We’re looking forward to being the main stage partner in 2008, especially as this year is the Converse century year and we want to celebrate this with the 18’s and under amongst other age groups. The Underage Festival gives us the perfect platform to do that.”

The line-up will be announced shortly…
