V Festival 2009: Oasis and The Killers to headline

Story by Jack Foley

OASIS and The Killers have been confirmed as the headline acts at the 2009 V Festival.

The super-groups will be joined by an “eclectic” line-up including Mercury Music Prize winners Elbow, Keane, Razorlight, The Specials, Pete Doherty and Fatboy Slim.

Hot newcomers such as MGMT, The Ting Tings Lady GaGa are also due to play at this year’s event, which takes place – as ever – at twin sites in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, and Weston Park, Staffordshire. The dates are August 22 and 23.

Commenting on this year’s event, festival director Bob Angus said: “We’re genuinely thrilled to have such an eclectic line-up this year.

“Our headliners are two of the biggest acts in music today and with them being joined by some really exuberant newcomers, this summer’s V Festival is set to give festival fans something to shout about.”

Last year, 150,000 people turned out for the festival, which was headlined by Amy Winehouse, Muse and The Verve.

Tickets for this year’s event, which is now in its 14th year, go on sale on Friday, March 6, at 10am.
